Islands of the Venetian Lagoon and the Grand Canal
We will head north on the estuary lagoon with the first stop at Torcello , first island of the Venetians, settlements began when they fled from barbarians during the fourth century. There is the first Cathedral of Venice, dated 639 amazing for its Byzantine golden Mosaics . Later arrival to Burano, the colourful fishing island but first of all lace making tradition. In the island where fishing is still the main economy, we will walk through the town’s streets and squares in the beautiful scenario made of multi-coloured homes and palaces. This is the “leaning tower” island with a myriad of small art museums and lacemaking workshops one can see the work of the old ladies of Burano, Queens of this ancient craft.
