Starting from Piazzale Roma or your hotel, crossing the St. Mark’s basin and circumnavigating the “Isola di San Giorgio”, we will start to move north to Murano.
On the way we will stop at the “Arsenale”, a time the Venetian republic’s naval power.
Murano was once a separate city from Venice, even minting its own coins. It grew in population and standing as the glass factories of Venice were moved to Murano over fears of fire in such a densely packed city.
Its fame even today comes from its glass factories. We can organize a private visit to one of the best factories in Murano, where you will see the glass blowers in action.

Heading north again we will arrive at Burano. With its own character, brightly coloured houses and lace making. The best place for lunch is on nearby Torcello at Locanda Cipriani where past guests include Ernest Hemingway and the British Royal Family. Torcello itself was the first island to be settled in the lagoon but little remains since it was abandoned aside from the cathedral that holds some of the finest examples of Byzantine art.
To break the journey on the way back to Venice we can stop at San Francesco del Deserto, an island convent. In use since Roman times, St Francis landed here in 1220 upon his return from the holy land and founded a hermitage. On the way back, we will pass through the “Isola delle Vignole”, a time used from Venetians as a vacation place, today an amazing uninhabited island.
